The Challenge

The photos from a celebration stay scattered across guests' phones

At a celebration almost everyone takes photos, each on their own phone. Those photos rarely end up in one place, so the hosts and the guests only see a small part of them.

So in 2025 we made PhotoMVP, an album every guest adds their photos to.

We set ourselves three goals:

  1. Let a guest scan a QR code and add their photos straight away, without installing an app.
  2. Make the album open fast, even with hundreds of photos in it.
  3. Let an unwanted photo be taken down, and give the hosts the whole album at the end.

The Approach

  1. From the QR code to the album

A guest scans the QR code and the album opens right in the phone's browser, with no app to install and no account to make. The button for adding photos is right at the top, so there's nothing to look for.

They can send several photos and videos at once, and the other guests then see them too. Guests at a celebration often come from different countries, so the album is available in three languages.

Three phones with a PhotoMVP album: the Add photo or video button, the upload with its progress rings, and the album with the new photos first
  2. Fast album loading

One celebration can bring a few hundred photos and videos into an album. So the album loads smaller versions first, and that way it opens and scrolls quickly. Guests can open any photo full screen and save it to their phone.

Our server makes the smaller versions as soon as a photo arrives, and the guest gets them from the server nearest to them.

Three phones with a PhotoMVP album: the photo grid, a photo open in the viewer, and the end of the album
  3. Full control over the content

We run every album from our admin panel, where we see everything guests add and can remove anything. Guests' requests to remove a photo come in there too.

The hosts don't have to collect the photos and videos. After a set period, we send them everything from their album.

Three phones with a photo open in the PhotoMVP viewer, the Request deletion dialog with its two reasons, and one reason picked

Where It Stands

So far we've made albums for more than 20 weddings and celebrations.

PhotoMVP is still in use at celebrations. We handle everything around it ourselves, and we keep maintaining and improving the app.
